TIPS
- Use a hot knife to cut the fabric to prevent frayed edges. If needed you can use sharp scissors and carefully burn the edges with a lighter. You can also prevent unraveling by finishing your seams with a serger or overlock stitch, or using a zigzag stitch on a regular sewing machine. You can also apply seam sealant or fabric glue to the edges of your seams for added reinforcement.
- Use UV- Resistant marine thread to help maintain the integrity of your seams and prevent them from deteriorating over time due to sun exposure.
- When used as a boat cover make sure the cover does not rub directly against the seats (especially black canvas) as it gets very hot and can cause the sun to burn the vinyl.
- Most people use at least a 1/2 inch seam allowance for most upholstery projects.
